Scoliosis Treatment Provided by Zaker Chiropractic

One of the most common reasons patients come into our office is due to concerns related to their back or spine. Especially with Scoliosis Treatment. Back pain is one of the most common reasons why someone seeks the care of a trained medical provider. When someone is suffering from back pain, this can make it hard to get out of bed in the morning, go to work, attend school, or even walk around the house. When someone is feeling back pain, this might be due to a variety of issues. Some of the problems that we see include paraspinal muscle tenderness, a herniated discwhiplash, and even something called scoliosis. The last of these can make it hard for patients to move effectively. Therefore, there are a few important points that everyone should keep in mind.

What is Scoliosis?

When someone has been diagnosed with scoliosis, they have an abnormal curvature of their spine. Specifically, their spine curves from side to side (left or right). This abnormal curvature most often develops during the adolescent years because teenagers undergo a rapid period of growth that might exacerbate an underlying abnormality.

The vast majority of cases of scoliosis are relatively mild; however, as children and teenagers continue to grow, the problems might become more severe. Extreme lateral curvatures of the spine can become quite disabling. This can reduce the amount of space that is present within the chest, making it hard for someone to breathe normally.

When someone comes into our office, we check the spine to make sure that everything is aligned as it should be. If we suspect that someone has scoliosis, we will take an image of the spine using an x-ray. Then, we will measure the curvature of the spine in terms of degrees. If we believe that scoliosis treatment is necessary, there are a few options that we can employ.

How Can Cryotherapy Treat Scoliosis?

One of the non-surgical treatment options for scoliosis is called cryotherapy. Cryotherapy can be an effective treatment option for those who are suffering from back pain, including pain due to scoliosis. By using extremely cold temperatures, we can quench the inflammation in the back, helping the muscles to relax. This can be done to stop the curve in the spine from worsening. Combined with other treatment options, such as a brace or spinal decompression, cryotherapy can be used to help someone who has been diagnosed with scoliosis. We often recommend cryotherapy as part of a comprehensive treatment plan that we can use to correct the spine of someone who has been diagnosed with scoliosis.

Spinal Decompression as Part of Scoliosis Treatment

Another treatment option that we can use to help people suffering from scoliosis is called spinal decompression. When someone has been diagnosed with this spinal condition, the vertebrae often start to pinch the nerves as they leave the back. This can lead to pain that travels down the arms and legs. In this treatment option, a scoliosis doctor will apply traction to the back. Then, using gentle pressure, this non-surgical treatment will stretch the vertebrae ever so slightly. Using this pressure, the pinched nerves will be relieved and will be able to relax. This might even help someone correct slight abnormalities in the curvature of their spine. In some cases, more than one treatment session will be needed. Spinal decompression is typically part of a well-rounded treatment plan that is designed to address someone's back pain and scoliosis. Trust a scoliosis doctor to perform effective decompression.
